K R Market, Bengaluru

K R Market, Bengaluru

The modern tech cityof Bengaluru (Bangalore) began as a 16th century fortified

settlement that was built here by Hiriya Kempegowda, a local chieftain. Over time, it attracted migrant artisanal and mercantile populations from neighbouring regions who settled here and called it home. Their live, work and worship areas influenced city identity and contributed to the unique cultural pluralism that Bengaluru is known for today.

The Gothic influenced KR Market (1927) is a commemorative structure named after the Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. Its multi-hued flower market reinforces Bengaluru’s horticultural identity and a long gone epithet, the `Garden City.’
