Qutub Minar, Mehrauli, Delhi
Dilli (Delhi) the capital city of India has an impressive built heritage, rich gastronomic
traditions and a vibrant cultural milieu. Much of this has to do with the dynasties that ruled it over the centuries and contributed to the layers of the `seven cities’ that it rests on today. The physical imprints they left behind include domed mausoleums, forts, shrines, pleasure gardens, minarets and palaces that sit comfortably alongside the modern city that rose around them.
The Qutub Minar, Mehrauli,a red sandstone and marble structure is said to be the second highest single brick minaret in the world. It was commissioned in the 13th century by Qutub-ud- din Aibak, founder of the Delhi Sultanate but was completed only a century later.
